Some bamboo variety can shoot to 35 to 40 meters in height making them the largest grass species in the world. Some varieties will spring to just a half a meter but short or high, they produce woody perennial stems, a key to their much sought after use.

Bamboo Flooring

In recent years, western society has taken a shine to bamboo flooring. Providing a great finish and known for it's tough qualities, bamboo flooring has rapidly gained popularity during the past decade.

The use of bamboo flooring is catching the attention of environmentalists as an alternative to hardwoods. As a member of the grass family, its rate of growth is faster than most hardwood trees and is seen as a renewable resource. Still, there are those who consider bamboo wind chimes somewhat of a nuisance especially in suburban areas. With homes in close proximity to one another, the sound of the chimes can travel surprisingly large distances and can break the peace and quiet of some communities.

Types Of Bamboo Wind Chimes

Bali wind chimes have a larger block in the center over normal versions and when this makes contact with the tubes and flat sections below it when caught by wind, it produces it's one of a kind sound.

Experts recommend not adding anything to the individual tubes if you're after a full sound. In addition, by passing the string through a hole at the bottom of the tube rather than the conventional attachment method or stapling it to the bamboo, this fuller sound can be achieved. Those who take building wind chimes more seriously will go to the extra trouble of hand tuning each of the tubes to virtually guarantee the melodic sound they're after.

Natural bamboo, usually lighter in color will have the same type of muted sound as bamboo wind chimes made of carbonized bamboo. However, most artisans refrain from using the pressure drying techniques as it can take some of the resonance qualities out of the wood.

While bamboo wind chimes can be found at a variety of sources, the handmade ones will each have a unique sound, never repeated in another unit and their hand painted designs insure the owner has a one of a kind decoration on their home.

How can we repair weathered bamboo wind chimes?

We recently moved into a house we are renting, and the previous owners left TONS of garden statues, tools, and miscellaneous decorations in the backyard. We threw most of the stuff away, but my husband wants to keep the bamboo wind chimes we found. They have been hanging in the sun for a very long time and are quite weathered. The wood is very dry, and one piece of bamboo is actually split. Is there a way to clean and oil it or something to make it look nicer without disrupting the sound it makes? A stain, maybe, to protect it from more damage? I have moved them to a shadier spot, but would love to make them look nicer if possible. Thank you!!! =)

All you need to do is visit a store that sells lots of spray paint and check to see if there is any spray stain in the inventory. Choose your color. And you can also use clear finish spray also. I have bought both kinds in spray cans to use on cabinet hardware and still looks new after 2 years of service.
It's much easier to spray round surfaces than to use a paint brush.

Looking for some inspiration for my pond area, what can I add please? (pics)?

Ok I like the zen/oriental/buddha theme but am unsure on what else to add to my pond area?

First of all, I think your pond looks beautiful! I really don't think you need to add much, remember, the plants you have will fill out.
I would add a large mirror against the brushwood, and then a red Japanese Maple in a beautiful pot. The maple will then be reflected in both mirror and pond.
Maybe a few smooth, large pebbles, but don't over-do it.
A bamboo wind-chime would be perfect.
