Do you see patches of yellowish leaves in your lawn? Is it July, August or September? If you answer yes to these questions, then probably, you are experiencing lawn grubs infestation. Did you know that in severe cases, you will be able to pull off the ground a bunch of grass with no more roots because they are all eaten up by the grubs?

Adult lawn grubs are not the problem. The problem actually is the larvae or wormlike lawn grubs. They feed on the roots and harming the turf in the process.

If you are having problems with lawn grubs, do not worry because there are ways to get rid of them.

Proper and regularly maintaining your lawn is a good defense against lawn grubs but then, how do you maintain your lawn to avoid lawn grubs from wreaking havoc in it?

Water them deeply when you see drought signs. Do not water your lawn frequently with light watering because frequently moist lawns attack beetles. Beetles as you know are the sources of lawn grubs, which are the larvae of beetles.

There are two major ways of treating your lawn when you see this little grubs creeping in. By the way, damage from lawn grubs happen during the months of August to September.

Why is it so, this is because Beetles mate and lay eggs from June to August. Thus, in the months of August and September when the larvae are still young, they feed on your grass roots to survive.

In the months of October and November when the temperature of the soil begins to cool, the grubs will move deeper into the soil. Usually during winter, you will not see grubs in your lawn. They are hiding underneath waiting for the next chance to attack your grass.

Early spring, they will come up again into the root zone and resume feeding. Controlling them by this time may be somewhat difficult because they are already a bit bigger.

Thus, if you want to save your lawn from grubs, treatments should happen during the months of July to September when the larvae are still young and feeding near the surface.

Ways to get rid of the grubs

Use Insecticides

There are commercially available insecticides specifically formulated against grubs. You can find them in hardware stores. Diazinon, chlorpyrifos and isofenophos are some of the effective chemicals against the grubs.

While you can find them easily, you have to strictly follow the instruction in the label. Alternatively, you can ask the store clerk to give you some useful tips in using the insecticide against lawn grubs.

Use organic solutions like predatory nematodes

If you do not want to use chemical insecticides because they may harm your family, then organic solution can be helpful to you.

You can find predatory nematodes that will be helpful against the grubs because they parasitize them and kill them along the way.

Because they are living organisms, you have to follow the instruction given to you by your local garden supplies store. Ask for advice on how to use the nematodes against lawn grubs to ensure that you will solve the problem rather than worsen it.
